1 c. shortening, 3/4 tsp. vanilla, 1/2 c. sugar, 1/2 c. packed brown sugar, 2 eggs, beaten, 2 c. sifted all purpose flour, 1/2 tbsp. baking soda, 1/2 tbsp. salt, 1 1/2 c. uncooked rolled oats, quick or old fashioned, 48 small gumdrops
