New Orleans Barbecue Shrimp Recipe
Ingredients:
1 c. butter1 c. vegetable oil
2 tsp. minced garlic
4 bay leaves, crushed
2 tsp. dried rosemary, crushed
1/2 tsp. dried basil
1/2 tsp. oregano
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. Cayenne pepper
1 tbsp. paprika
3/4 tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. lemon juice
2 lbs. whole fresh shrimp (in the shell)
Cooking Directions:
In a heavy saute pan or sauce pan, melt the butter; then add the oil and mix well. Add all the other ingredients except the shrimp and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sauce begins to boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 7 to 8 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove pan from heat and let the sauce stand, uncovered, at room temperature for at least 30 minutes. (This can be done ahead and kept at room temperature all day.) Add shrimp to sauce and mix well. Return to burner and cook over medium heat for 6 to 8 minutes or just until shrimp turns pink; then put pan in 450 degree oven and bake for 10 minutes.Serve equal portions of shrimp with about 1/2 cup of sauce ladled over each one. Serve with French bread to "mop up" the sauce.
